At the end of every week, I sit down and process my thoughts

I’m a big fan of David Allen’s “Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress Free Productivity”. When I discovered it back in 2017, it completely changed my thoughts on life and productivity, something for which I will forever be grateful. While I’ve implemented many of Allen’s techniques in my day to day life (more on that in another post), one of them I wanted to highlight is, the Weekly Review.

Allen notes that:

The Weekly Review is the time to:

• Gather and process all your “stuff.”

• Review your system.

• Update your lists.

• Get clean, clear, current, and complete.

Every Friday, I sit and write down all the needle moving things that happened during the week. The actions completed, that I feel will get me closer to my goals.

You ever get that feeling where you’re getting things done everyday, but it doesn’t feel like anything is actually happening? Sometimes I get so lost in the minutia of life, and when I look back on the weekly reviews that I’ve written, I see forward progress and realize how much has actually happened along the journey. Taking a few minutes to write a weekly review really helps me take a step back and gather my thoughts on the things that worked, and more importantly, the things that didn’t work and why.
